ThorTurf™ Calculator
ThorTurf calculators are designed to estimate the amount of ThorTurf (Fibered ThorTurf, Non-Fibered ThorTurf, ProTurf and RaceTurf) required for your equine surfacing project.
Arenas – Rectangular or Square
Enter the length and width of the arena surface into the calculator. Enter the depth, in inches, of ThorTurf to be installed. A minimum depth of 3 inches is recommended for arenas. Click on the “Calculate” button. This will generate the quantity of ThorTurf required for your arena. Quantity is given in U.S. tons (2,000 lbs./ton).
Coverage Rate
The coverage rate of ThorTurf is approximately 6.5 lbs. per square foot for each inch of depth.
A minimum depth of 3 inches is recommended for arena applications (6.5 lbs. x 3 inches of depth = 19.5 lbs. of ThorTurf per square foot). Each Super Sack of ThorTurf weighs approximately one U.S. ton (2,000 lbs.).
Race Tracks | Training Tracks | Gallops
A minimum depth of 6 inches of RaceTurf is required for horse tracks and gallops. (6.5 lbs. x 6-inches of depth = 39 lbs. of RaceTurf per square foot). Enter the length and width of the track into the calculator. Enter the depth, in inches, of RaceTurf to be installed. Click on the “Calculate” button. This will generate the quantity of RaceTurf required for your track. Quantity is given in U.S. tons (2,000 lbs./ton).

Round Pens | Walkers | Circular Areas
Enter the radius of the circular area into the calculator. To determine the radius of your circular area, measure the diameter of the circle and divide that number by 2 (the radius is ½ of the diameter measurement). See diagram that shows diameter and radius of a circle.
Enter the depth, in inches, of ThorTurf to be installed. A minimum depth of 3 inches is recommended for round pens, walkers and other circular areas. Click on the “Calculate” button. This will generate the quantity of ThorTurf required for your circular area. The quantity is displayed in U.S. tons (2,000 lbs./ton).
